Live Rooms

Every student on their own phone. You run the room.

Live Rooms is Awesomeville with you at the front. Students join with a six-letter code or by scanning the projector. Teams build their business together on their phones while you watch every Blueprint fill in, call the pitches, and publish the results. No accounts. Nothing kept.

The short version

One code, one class, one hour

Here's exactly how a 60-minute Live Rooms session runs.

1
2 min

Open the console, put the projector view up

You open the host console on your laptop and the projector view on the big screen. The projector shows a giant six-letter room code and a QR code. That's the whole setup.

2
3 min

Phones join with the code

Students scan the QR or type the code into rooms.awesomeville.ca. They enter a first name or nickname and they're in. No app, no account, no email.

3
5 min

Teams form and name themselves

Let students pick a team and name it, or auto-assign from the console. You can shuffle, move a student, or remove an empty team. Late arrivals show up in a bar on your console and you place them with one tap.

4
30 min

Deal, then run the seven steps from the console

Every team is dealt its own town, opportunities and bylaw. Then the seven steps run from your console: Explore, Ideate, Build, Reveal your Wildcard, Prepare your pitch, Pitch, Reflect. Each step has a timer and a what-to-say prompt for you. Phones follow along, and when time's up, every phone flashes.

5
15 min

Pitch from the phone, slides on the projector

Tap Next team up. Their pitch slides, built from their Blueprint, land on the projector and they drive from their phone. Everyone else gives stars and a badge. You score privately on the Awesomeville Assessment Rubric: six criteria, 1 to 4 each, out of 24.

6
5 min

Publish the results

Scores stay hidden until you press Publish. Then each team sees their score, feedback and awards on their phone, the leaderboard goes up on the projector, and you download a CSV if you want it in the gradebook.

The best part is the pitch. Their slides go up on the projector, they drive from their phone, and the whole room votes before the next team is up.

Good to know

Questions before ordering opens

What do I actually receive?

A licence key by email, in the form AV-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. You enter it once on the host screen at rooms.awesomeville.ca and that device remembers it. You also get the Live Rooms facilitator guide, a run-sheet for your first session, and access to the Town Hall resource hub.

Do students need accounts?

No. Students never need a key or an account. They join with the six-letter room code or by scanning the QR on the projector, type a first name or nickname, and they're in. The key is only for you, on the host laptop.

Can I share my key with a colleague?

One key is for one educator. A key that hosts more than a handful of games in a day gets paused, so please don't pass it around a department. If a few of you want to run it, buy one per educator. I'd rather say that plainly than have your session stop halfway through.

Does it work on Zoom or Teams?

Yes. Flip on remote mode in the lobby. The projector view drops the QR and shows the join link large, and the console gives you a join message to paste into the meeting chat. Use one breakout room per team, and the console can copy a team list for breakout pre-assignment. Steps, timers and "now pitching" all reach each student's own screen.

What if a phone drops?

They reopen the link and they're back on their team with everything intact. Their team's work lives on the room, not on their phone, so a dead battery or a lost signal costs nothing.

Is student data collected?

Only a first name or nickname, the team's written work, scores, peer stars and an optional reflection, and only for the length of the session. Rooms delete themselves 24 hours after the last activity, or sooner if you press End session now. Nothing goes in a gradebook unless you choose to download the CSV. There are no accounts, no emails, and no tracking. The full plain-language version is at rooms.awesomeville.ca/privacy.html.

Do I have to rank the teams?

No. Pick Celebration mode in the lobby and there is no podium and no leaderboard. Each team sees only its own feedback, badges and awards, and the projector shows a celebration board with every team on it. You still see every score on the console and in the CSV.

How many students can join?

Up to 20 teams and 200 players in one room. A typical class of 30 in 6 teams is comfortable, and a whole-grade workshop still fits.

Do I need the physical game too?

No. Live Rooms has the full current deck built in. If you want the cards on the table as well, for a mixed session or for days without phones, the Educator bundle is the Classic pack plus Live Rooms for $250.
