How to play

How Awesomeville works

Five card decks and seven steps. Here's the whole game, start to finish.

The five decks

Every round is built from five kinds of cards.

Town
A community with its own quirks
Opportunity
A real need worth solving
Bylaws
A rule that shapes your idea
Wildcard
A twist that changes the game
Aha!
A prompt to reflect & learn

The journey

Seven steps, start to pitch

Town
Every town has unique characteristics
1
5 to 10 min

Explore your town

Read your Town, Opportunity, and Bylaw cards together. What is life like here? Houseboats that drift with the tide, a glowing city under the desert, a place where umbrellas are banned. Then choose the one Opportunity your team will pursue.

Opportunity
Identify real problems and needs
2
10 to 20 min

Ideate

Come up with as many ideas as you can for solving that Opportunity in that town. No bad answers, quantity over quality, build on each other. The strange ideas are usually the ones worth keeping.

Bylaws
Rules and restrictions shape your decision
3
10 to 20 min

Build your solution

Pick one idea and shape it into a business: a name, a slogan, a logo, your customer, and how it makes money. Your Bylaw adds one real business concept you have to build around, so the idea has to genuinely satisfy it.

Wildcard
Unexpected events keep you on your toes!
4
5 to 10 min

Reveal your Wildcard

Flip the face-down Wildcard. Something just changed: a competitor arrives, a law passes, the town turns on you. Adapt your business to survive it, exactly like real founders do.

Blueprint
Your business on one page
5
5 min

Prepare your pitch

Plan one to three minutes: the Problem in your town, the Solution your team created, Why It Works with the quirks and the Bylaw, and the Pivot the Wildcard forced.

Pitch
Present, ask, vote
6
1 to 3 min per team

Pitch

Present to the room. Ask questions after each pitch. Then vote for Best Solution, Best Pitch, and Most Creative Idea.

Aha!
Pause, reflect, and discover what you've learned
7
5 min

Reflect

Flip your Aha! card and take a few minutes as a team. What worked, what would you change, and what was the biggest insight? Share one with the room.

The worksheet

The Business Blueprint

One page that holds the whole idea. Teams fill it in as they build, and it becomes the script for their pitch.

Wildcard pivot

Six boxes, not sixteen. It's printable from Town Hall, and the back is an Idea Storm page for the messy part. Every half-thought goes down there first, then the team works boxes 1 to 6 in order.
